Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Reacting to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) 12-hour ‘Bengal Bandh,’ Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kunal Ghosh criticized the protest, claiming that the people of West Bengal have rejected what he termed a “drama of anarchy.” Ghosh labeled the bandh as a “failed attempt” by the BJP to disrupt peace in the state, asserting that normalcy prevails despite the opposition's efforts.
Addressing the media, Ghosh remarked, “We all want justice in the R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital rape-murder case. Mamata Banerjee also wants justice. The case is now in CBI’s hands. One accused has been arrested...now the CBI is investigating the matter...They (BJP) are trying to create anarchy here. Yesterday they attacked the police, and today they have called this bandh. Everything is normal in Bengal. The people of West Bengal have rejected BJP’s bandh.”
Meanwhile, TMC workers staged protests against the BJP’s bandh, emphasizing their commitment to maintaining order in the state. Train services between Bangaon and Sealdah, which were disrupted earlier, have been reinstated, further underlining the limited impact of the bandh.
TMC leader Narayan Ghosh also condemned the BJP’s actions, stating, “They (BJP) want to make poor people suffer. They have come to West Bengal to do dacoity. Common and poor people are with Mamata Banerjee. West Bengal can’t be stopped by doing such things.”
